ABOUT CUTE SNAIL
Cute Snail came to me on a whim one day – after I’d seen a group of Snails sweetly enjoying some popcorn on The Snail Hospital instagram feed. She was the answer to a prayer I’d recently put in about simplifying my drawing, workload and creative process such that it all felt easier, more fun and less overwhelming.
“Dear God, could you please send me something that feels easy and fun to draw, charming, versatile and relatable such that it will help streamline my drawing, workload, inspiration, motivation and creative process?”
It took a few months, but eventually my prayer was answered. Cute Snail and I started out committed to making at least 12 drawings that would culminate into a calendar at the end of 2025. In between drawings we created postcards, stickers and other stationery for everyone to enjoy.
But then, the platform we were using to make and showcase all our SNAIL-TASTIC creations suddenly took an unforeseen business direction that we didn’t feel comfortable being a part of. So we moved our party over to Payhip and have been working over there ever since.
The personalized postcards, stickers and calendars we created are still available for sale over on Zazzle Dot Com however.
ABOUT JULIET
Hi! 👋 I’m Juliet Parrott-Merrell – Temecula, California resident, Portland Oregon native, cute cartoon artist and creator of Cute Snail!
These days, due to issues related to chronic illness, pain and fatigue, I spend most of my time sitting at our kitchen table, sipping warm creamy cups of coffee, drawing, making or doing word search puzzles or other pictures, playing solitaire or other brain strengthening games, watching YouTube or TV and napping.
When I feel up to it, and the weather, stars and a working power wheelchair are aligned, my husband Paul and I like to go for walks in our neighborhood, say “hello” to the lizards, flowers and dogs in our neighborhood, see what’s new.
❤️ THINGS I ENJOY
- McDonald’s coffee (and cheeseburgers)
- Being outside/Exploring the outdoors (I blame this on the fact that I grew up not far from Mount Hood and the Columbia River gorge. I spent the first 40 years of my life going to both of these places often)
- Sunshine
- Smiles
- Rainbows
- Cats
- Baseball (The San Diego Padres are our closest home team, but we also root for the Angels, Dodgers and many others)
- Solitaire, Word search puzzles, digital jigsaw puzzles
- And SNAILS of course! (and other bugs, slugs and animals too)
📺 FAVORITE TV SHOWS
- Classic Westerns (specifically those made in the 1960’s. I like the wonderful colors that were used in the sets back then, and also the wonderful riveting classic soap opera-esque story lines. Plus, I’m a huge Robert Fuller, Clint Walker, Richard Boone and Johnny and Bobby Crawford fan. Oh! And James Garner too.)
- Quantum Leap, Magnum PI, Knight Rider and The Rockford Files.
🥨 FAVORITE SNACKS
- Cheez-It Crackers (Original)
- Triscuit Crackers (Original)
- Plain Salted Pretzels (or Gardetto’s original)
- Mint Oreos
- Hershey Chocolate (plain or with almonds)
OTHER THINGS YOU MIGHT APPRECIATE KNOWING ABOUT ME
- I was born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy (I use a power wheelchair and have a significant loss of eyesight because of it).
- I lost my left eye in 2019 due to an eye stroke followed by complications from glaucoma.
- My favorite colors are watermelon pink and apple green.
- The smell of Play-doh and Crayola Crayons, at almost 54 years old, still makes me giddy.
